Leading The Bingman Group since 2007 is a perfect fit for Teresa A. Bingman. She possesses relevant legal, policy, and administrative experience and skills to create and implement various strategic plans of action. Bingman has an impressive track record of developing meaningful and positive relationships with executive leaders in government, the private and non profit sector, and people from all walks of life.

Passionate about helping to transform the effects of Michigan’s struggling economy, Bingman continues to tackle challenging issues with the purpose of creating positive, tangible results by meeting people where they are, developing effective relationships, and creating collaborative partnerships.

Before establishing The Bingman Group, Bingman served as a member of Governor Jennifer M. Granholm’s Cabinet as Cabinet Secretary and as the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Strategic Initiatives. In this role, Bingman served as the co-leader for the Governor’s Cabinet Action Plan, a tool designed to plan, implement and monitor goals, expectations, and outcomes of prioritized initiatives and programs of every state department. She also organized effective public/private ventures that are still in place and have addressed key issues facing Michigan’s residents and cities.

Prior to being named a Cabinet member, Bingman served as the Governor’s Deputy Legal Counsel and Criminal Justice Policy Advisor and also chaired and served as lead staff for the Governor for various initiatives, including the Prisoner ReEntry Initiative (Chaired the Team that launched this initiative), the Detroit Medical Center Fiscal Oversight Committee, and the Jail and Prison Overcrowding Task Force.

Earlier, Bingman was appointed to serve as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan in the Executive Division, functioning as one of the Lobbyists for the Attorney General, handling urban policy issues and legislative affairs. She also served within the Criminal Division, prosecuting various crimes and within the Casino Control Division, focusing on casino licensing, policies and procedures, and regulation. Before working in Michigan State government, Bingman led UAW-GM Legal Services Plan offices, in both Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Flint, Michigan as Managing Attorney, handling various civil matters for General Motors’ hourly workers and managing the law offices.

Bingman began her career in 1988 in Oklahoma as an Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting felony, misdemeanor, and child support cases, and handling juvenile justice cases. Ms. Bingman later served as the General Counsel for the State Narcotics Department (The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control).

Teresa A. Bingman received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University in 1985 and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1988. She is licensed to practice law in both Michigan and Oklahoma and served on the Board of Trustees for Michigan State University College of Law (2006-10). Bingman remains active within a number of professional and community organizations including the Michigan State Bar (Character and Fitness Regional Committee), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and the Links, Incorporated (Vice-President of the Lansing/East Lansing Chapter and Co-Chair of the Policy and Legislative Issues Committee for the Area – 68 chapters in 15 states).
